BMC Election Results LIVE | BMC Results LIVE | BMC Results 2026 LIVE | Mumbai Mayor

We will talk about Asia's most powerful municipal corporation i.e.

BMC. Where the election results have

given a big political message. BAMC has

created history and Maharashtra is getting

a new king. Why did Thackeray brothers

lose? And why is the budget of BMC

bigger than five states? You will get to

see and hear everything today in this prime time special.

All you have to do is stay

with us for half an hour.

The election results of 29 municipal corporations including BAMC in Maharashtra have been declared.

Bharatiya

Janata Party and its allies, including

Shiv Sena, took lead in 23 out of 29 municipal corporations.

This time, the balance of power completely

changed in Mumbai, which was dominated by Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena for the last 25 years. For the first time in 45 years, the Bharatiya Janata

Party has reached a position where it can

make its own mayor in Mumbai. This is the reason why

you are seeing this celebration.

The BJP alliance is heading towards a one-sided victory in the municipal elections of Maharashtra.

One way towards

victory. This result is in front of you. Out

of the total 227 seats of BAMC, BJP and

Shinde faction of Shiv Sena, whose name itself is Shiv

Sena. Shiv Sena alliance has

missed the clear majority mark. The number 118

is 114. This means that

preparations are underway to write a new chapter in the power of Mumbai.

Not

only in Mumbai but also in Nagpur, Pune,

Thane, Navi Mumbai, Pipri, Chichwad and Nashik, the

BJP alliance seems to be gaining an edge.

Overall, if we talk about the overall figures

the

political direction and condition of BJP have now

changed in the municipal elections of Maharashtra. And this political

wave that arose from Mumbai can give big indications in the coming days

because after 20 years two brothers came

together and were talking big, the

work of showing them the mirror has been done here.

So the figures in front of you are 118, Bharatiya Janata

Party plus Shiv Sena 69, please note that

Shiv Sena plus Uddhav's Congress is 12

and others have 11 here.

This

is the current situation.

Look, this is a technical matter. That is why

we repeatedly say that

come to ballot paper. Yesterday, not just in Mumbai, but

across Maharashtra,

voters were complaining against EVMs. Is that

party not ours? There is a

mistake in the portal list of all the parties,

you must have seen it

and even today if our counting of votes has stopped at so many places,

then it has stopped because of EVMs. On

one hand there is accusation of defeat and on the other hand there is

laughter of victory. The biggest political story of Maharashtra is hidden between these two statements.

The

story of those elections which not only

changed the picture of power in Mumbai but

also gave a clear message to the politics of the country.

This time the municipal elections in Maharashtra were

not just local elections. This election

became a test of strength and the results

revealed whose support base was strong and whose

ground had slipped. The dominance of the

BJP alliance was clearly visible in all the municipal corporations of the state including BMC. From

Mumbai to

Pune, Nagpur to Nashik, the

alliance made its presence felt in every major urban stronghold. The

most important battle was that of Mumbai. The

country's richest municipal corporation, the Mumbai

Municipal Corporation, is the same BMC which was

dominated by Shiv Sena for decades. But this time the

political tables turned. BJP not only

emerged as the largest party in BAMC

but also became capable of electing its own mayor in Mumbai for the first time. For the

first time in its 45-year political journey, BJP was

seen so close to power in Mumbai.

While the picture was different in 2017, this

time the alliance strategy and changed political

equations gave a big blow to the Thackeray brothers duo. By

joining hands with Shinde faction of Shiv Sena, BJP conquered such a political fort in Mumbai

which was once considered impossible to penetrate.

After 4 years, Mumbai is going to

get a new mayor and the indications are clear that the

mayor will be from BJP and will be from the Marathi community.

One thing is certain, these results of Maharashtra have

forced political parties from Delhi to Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh to think.

Because this political message raised from Mumbai is

not going to be limited to Maharashtra only.

Bureau Report IBC2

If there is any name that is being discussed the most in Maharashtra politics today, it is

Devendra Fadnavis. This story from power to opposition and then to the

pinnacle of power is not just about comeback

but about strategy, organization and

performance.

BJP's historic lead in the municipal elections has made it clear

in which direction Maharashtra's politics is

going? So has Fadnavis really become the

most powerful

and strong face of Maharashtra politics? Now there

is no question mark after this? Right now the situation is

such that he is the most powerful face. Long

live Mother India.

Hail Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Glory to Dharmaveer Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.

Hail Bhavani.

If there is one name that resonates the most in Maharashtra politics today, it is

Devendra Fadnavis, whom his supporters

call Deva Bhau and his opponents consider the

biggest political strategist.

Devendra Fadnavis's journey from the streets of Nagpur to the most powerful room in the ministry was

not easy, but every time, no matter what the circumstances,

Fadnavis returned stronger.

In 2019, he lost power, was betrayed, had a three-day

tenure as Chief Minister, and then the opposition's

chair. But from here the

script of the biggest political comeback started.

Returned to power in 2022. First he became the Deputy CM

and then in 2024, the strongest

Janresh Mahayuti in history got a bumper victory and Devendra

Fadnavis again became the Chief Minister. But the real test came

clean. Be it Municipal Council, Nagar

Panchayat or big Municipal Corporation elections, the

picture is the same everywhere - BJP is ahead and the opposition is

behind.

Today,

Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies have won 25 out of 29 municipal corporation elections in Maharashtra. The

people of Maharashtra have

shown complete faith in the Bharatiya Janata Party. We dedicate this grand victory of Maharashtra

under the leadership of our President Ravindra Chauhan ji to the

people of Maharashtra and our

workers. Be it

rural Maharashtra or urban areas, the

wave of BJP was clearly visible. Thousands of councillors,

hundreds of president posts and dominance of the grand alliance.

What was behind this victory? No slogans,

no noise but the new king of Maharashtra, Deva

Bhaav.

This is the victory of the politics of development and trust that Prime Minister Modi has started in Maharashtra and we resolve

that after this grand victory, all of us will

dedicate ourselves to serving each and every city of Maharashtra. Every

city will develop. There will be development of every person.

While the opposition remained

entangled in caste and controversies in the Maharashtra Municipal elections, Fadnavis

reached the gross root. Keeping development at the centre,

elections should be held to give tickets to educated and grassroots

candidates and communicate till the worker level.

Better coordination in the alliance.

All basic facilities will be provided to everyone.

We jumped into this election with this belief

and the public has given us such a blessing that this is

not an ordinary victory, it is a very grand

victory, hence I dedicate this victory to everyone and

congratulate all of you. I congratulate everyone. The

result was a historic victory for the BJP in the municipal elections

and this is a clear indication that

today the control of Maharashtra's politics is

in one hand. Sometimes Chief Minister, sometimes

Leader of Opposition, sometimes Deputy CM and now again the

most powerful Chief Minister. The Chief Minister is

now at a point where performance, not politics,

decides the outcome. The name of power and this

performance is Devendra Fadnavis. The

new king of Maharashtra.

Today a big

message has come from Mumbai in the politics of Maharashtra. After 20 years, Uddhav

Thackeray and Raj Thackeray came together. But the election

results shattered this unity. The

BMC which was dominated by the Thackeray family for three decades.

This time the public

handed over the keys of power to someone else. So the question

is whether the Thackeray family has made a mistake and if so,

where has the mistake been made?

You can also see a report on this.

Look, hype is being created as

if Russia and Ukraine have come together

and Zheltsky and Putin are talking. This

kind of hype is created by two parties that are trying to

find their existence. In a way, he has

lost his vote bank. If two such parties have

come together, then what difference will their coming together make

?

Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray came together after 20 years. The

slogan was Marathi identity, Marathi

manushya. It seemed that the result of the election would be different.

But the result was the opposite.

Once again a big decision was taken in Mumbai politics. The

BMC, which was ruled by the Thackeray family for years, was

shown the door by the public this time.

In the Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections, even Uddhav

Thackeray's Shiv Sena and Raj Thackeray's MLS

together could not win the trust of the people. Elections were held in

29 municipal corporations of Maharashtra on 15 January 2026. The

biggest battle is in

Mumbai's BMC. The Thackeray alliance

fielded candidates on more than 150 seats. But the

victory was only nominal. On the other hand, the

Bharatiya Janata Party led

Mahayuti comprising BJP, Shinde faction and NCP

won with a clear and historic majority.

Why did the Thackeray family lose? Understand this also. The

first reason is the split of Shiv Sena. A

large section of the party went with Eknath Shinde. The

old vote bank disintegrated. The second

reason is weak alliance. The impact of MNS remained limited.

Marathi voters do not constitute the entire population in Mumbai. The

third and biggest reason is the lack of a development agenda.

Thackeray Bhai kept talking about emotions

but the public chose work and development. Fourth

reason: wrong polarization. The politics of language and identity

pushed the remaining voters towards the BJP. Why did this defeat increase? Understand this also. In

fact, BMC is not just a municipal corporation,

it is the richest civic body in the country. When

BAMC was lost, money was lost, power was lost

and the strength of the organization was also lost. This is the

third consecutive major defeat of the Thackeray family. First the Assembly,

then the local body and now BAMC.

After 20 years, Thackeray

family and Thackeray brothers came together to win this election. But

again he remained away from victory. If the Thackeray family

still sticks to the old politics then the

problems will increase further. The message of the public

is clear that we want performance and not recognition. The right

agenda is also needed. Mumbai has given a clear message

that only those who talk about development will get power. That

means only those who talk about development will get power.

This is the mood of the public.

Raj Thackeray's politics, which started with opposition to Shiv Sena, was

also seen in the form of vocal opposition to Modi in 2019.

Raj Thackeray had formed a formal alliance for the first time for the BMC elections.

With his cousin Uddhav Thackeray, whom he had separated from years ago. But this also

went in vain. Raj Thackeray has been ruined in his attempt to become Bal Thackeray.

Uddhav Thackeray is

no longer like him.

You understood, right? In the municipal elections,

trends from 2869 wards across Maharashtra have emerged, with Raj Thackeray

's party MNS leading in 15 seats, including

eight in the BMC. And

their accounts could not be opened in 24 out of 29 municipal corporations.

That means there is no one from MNS there.

In the alliance, Raj Thackeray was

contesting 52 seats of BMC. That means

BAMC was contesting elections on 52 seats.

Whereas Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena is on 163 seats.

That means,

if any leader or party has

suffered the most in the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation elections, it is none other than Raj

Thackeray. The Thackeray brothers together

raised the issue of Marathi Manus.

But in order to sharpen it, Raj

Thackeray also said a lot of things.

Once it seemed that perhaps both the brothers together would be able to make their

politics shine again. But the

voters had something else in mind. Uddhav Thackeray definitely suffered a

misfortune. Raj Thackeray is

no longer anywhere. In the Mumbai rally, the Thackeray brothers were

seen thundering and raining in their old style.

Neither Raj Thackeray nor Uddhav Thackeray

looked any less than the other. The

style was also of doing something for Marathi identity.

But what are the results telling us

? People did not like this style of Thackeray brothers at all. Didn't

like it at all.

Why was this election so important? Now let me

tell you its inside story. In fact, the

budget of many states in the country is Rs 30 to 40 thousand crores. The

budget of many states is around Rs 30 to 400 crores.

But there is a city whose budget is

more than Rs 74000 crore and it is

also GK. This is what I say, watch prime time

specials. You will get to know a lot here.

Mumbai and its government

BAMC, this is not the election of councillor. The

election for the power of Mumbai

was the election for the power of Mumbai, but do you want to know why

BMC is called the most

powerful civil body of Asia? Please

play the report.

When the annual budget of big states of the country is Rs 30

to 400 crores, then there is a city

whose budget is more than Rs 74000 crores.

We are talking about Brihanmumbai Municipal

Corporation i.e. BMC. BMC is

not just a municipal corporation. This is the government of Mumbai city.

Roads, bridges, water, sewer, hospitals,

schools, waste management.

BAMC takes care of the daily needs of Mumbai's population of 1 crore 20 lakh.

This is why BMC is

called the largest civic body in Asia.

And this is the reason why BMC elections are

not just an election to elect councillors. There

is also an election for power in Mumbai.

BAMC's budget in the year 2025-26 is Rs 74,000

crore.

Understand the comparison, the budget of BMC is

more than five states. Total budget of Himachal Pradesh is Rs

crore Total budget of Arunachal Pradesh is Rs 49842

crore Total budget of Tripura is Rs 31412

crore Total budget of Goa is Rs 28162

crore Total budget of Sikkim is Rs 16000 crore

BMC's budget is Rs 74000 crore About

60% of the budget is spent on new schemes like

water lines, sewer treatment, roads,

hospitals, that is, whoever has the BMC in his hands, has the

future of Mumbai.

MLAs and MPs from different states of the country, including Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh,

make laws and policies. But

councillors are very powerful in Mumbai. The

real power of BAMC councillor is whether water will come

or not, the councillor decides. Whether the garbage will be collected

or not is the decision of the councillor. The

councillors will decide whether the local road will be built or stopped.

Drainage Light Park directly

under the control of the councilor. Every councillor

gets a development fund of Rs 1-2 crore annually. There is

power to take immediate decisions on local matters. The

impact on every household has a direct impact on everyday life.

Therefore, BAMC councillor

is more influential than MLA. Therefore, this election will decide the power balance not only

of Mumbai but of the entire Maharashtra politics. In a

city whose budget is

bigger than that of many states and whose decisions affect the country's

economy, there are

no municipal corporation elections. There is a

semi-final for that power. Overall, BAMC is

not just an institution but the key to power

which is now in the hands of BJP and its alliance. It's a

simple concept. Whoever talks about development will

rule Mumbai.
